Who Is Jesus?

I have just a few short notes today on who Jesus Christ actually is, was, and will always be. I know it sounds a little strange to say because everybody feels like they’ve got that all down pat, but bear with me a moment if you will. First of all Jesus is the “only begotten of the Father, "the Word of God” who has been with the Father from the beginning of all things, which beginning he himself is (Jn. 1:14; Jn. 1:1,2; Col. 1:18). Being begotten of the Father means that he came out of the Father, which makes him also God, being wholly of God’s own substance. No one else in all of existence has that distinction, thus no one else is God except he and the Father. He also is the creator of all things, acting on the instruction of his Father (Jn. 1:3; Col. 1:16; Eph. 3:9; Gen. 1:26). He is the Son of God who was sent from heaven to be conceived in a virgin, and was not conceived by the union of a man and a woman; but rather by the power of the Spirit of God (Jn. 1:14; Jn. 5:37; Jn. 8:42; etc; Lk. 1:34,35; Gal. 4:4). There is a doctrine that says that Jesus the man did not become Jesus the Christ until the baptism of John when supposedly the Son of God entered him. But that teaching invents the mindset that there are TWO ‘sons’ of God,’ and that they have both lived in the same body since the baptism of John, which is ridiculous. In fact one of my referenced scriptures above debunks that theory on its own, saying, “God, who created all things BY Jesus Christ” (Eph. 3:9). There are not two Jesus Christs, and the Jesus Christ who created all things and left heaven to become a human being is the exact same Jesus Christ who went back to heaven. Also we have the reality that “[Jesus] Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures” (I Cor. 15:3,4). It is certain that he raised from the dead in the very same body that he was put to death in (Lk. 24:39; Jn. 20:27). He also ascended back to heaven in that same body, being witnessed by his followers (Acts. 1:9). I stated that it was the same Jesus Christ that went back to heaven, as that came from heaven, and it is so. He did however take on manhood, suffer death in our place, and after raising from the dead and ascending back to heaven, he remained a man, except that he was glorified in heaven by the Father with “the glory which [he] had with [the Father] before the world was” (Jn. 17:5). So he did change in the sense of taking on manhood, but he did NOT change into being joined together with a man who had already lived for thirty years.

It was by becoming a man and suffering the things that he suffered, that he was able to become the redeemer and savior of all men, and the high priest and mediator of the new covenant (Gal. 4:4,5; Lk. 2:11; Heb. 4:15; Heb. 2:14,17,18). To confirm that he is still a man, howbeit in a glorified state, we have this: “For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the MAN Christ Jesus” (I Tim. 2:5). To show that he is certainly still God as he was in the beginning when he was with God, we have this: “But unto the Son [God] saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even THY God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows” (Heb. 1:8,9). One day soon this same Jesus Christ will bodily come back from heaven to earth, visible to all, when he will raise the faithful dead and destroy the wicked (Acts 1:10,11; Mat. 24:29-31; I Thess. 4:16,17; II Thess. 1:7-9; Rev. 1:7; etc.). He will also at this time set up his earthly kingdom with his faithful saints, and he will reign over all the earth in Jerusalem for a thousand years (Rev. 19:11,12; Rev. 20:4; Zech. 14:1-4; Isa. 2:2-4; Isa. 24:23). At the end of the thousand year reign and after the devil is cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, the resurrection of the unjust will take place, and EVERYONE will go to heaven for the judgment, where Jesus Christ will be the judge of all (Rev. 20:5,7-12; Jn. 5:22,29; Acts 10:42; II Tim. 4:1). After the great white throne judgment is finished, and everyone is given their allotment for eternity, Jesus with the righteous will go to the new earth where the Father will directly be God to everyone for eternity, including to his Son Jesus Christ: “Then cometh the end, when he shall have delivered up the kingdom to God, even the Father; when he shall have put down all rule and all authority and power… For [God] hath put all things under [Christ’s] feet. But when he saith all things are put under [Christ], it is manifest that [God] is excepted, which did put all things under him. And when all things shall be subdued unto him, then shall the Son also himself be subject unto him that put all things under him, that God may be all in all” (I Cor. 15:24,27,28). In short order these are the main elements that the scriptures give us on who Jesus Christ is, who he was, and who he will be.. Any teaching that contradicts any of these scriptural facts, changes who Jesus is, and is heretical in nature.
