The Holy Spirit and Judgment

"The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble" (Prov. 12:13). It never ceases to amaze me. People think that because they have a mouth to talk with, that their words mean something just because they can say them. The old saying is that "talk is cheap," and somebody who had some sense started that saying a long time ago somewhere. One of my main mottoes that I raised my two sons on is, "The last reason to believe anything is because somebody said it." Anybody can talk, and anybody can say anything they feel like saying, but that doesn't make it so. I've got news for you my friend, when it comes to the things that pertain to God and to reality; if your words have not come from heaven, they are worthless. Period. So often times people speak with such false spiritual bravado and do nothing but condemn themselves with their own words. Whoever came up with the phrase about people "eating their words" knew what they were talking about too. It seems I have a special gift for being told by someone, "We'll see about that." When someone's self righteous hand gets called by the truth of God, and they don't want to admit their error; there's nothing left but the false confidence of saying something like, "Oh we'll see about that in a little while." And I'm supposed to be intimidated by that kind of hot air? You had better hope that you are "seeing" things for what they really are and know what you're taking about NOW, rather than later. I don't talk about anything that I don't know by God's Spirit to be the truth, so I don't need to wait till later to "see about it." The scripture tells us, "There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD" (Prov. 21:30). People ought to stop and consider the overwhelming reality that God's word cannot possibly be defeated by THEIR words that are contrary to the truth. I don't care how you dress up a pig, or how you make it look; it is still a pig underneath that dressing. If someone is speaking by the holy Ghost my friend, and you don't happen to like it; you can talk all the spiritual sounding talk that you like, and it won't change one single thing. "The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: because the spirit of the Lord bloweth upon it: surely the people is grass. The grass withereth, the flower fadeth: but the word of our God shall stand for ever" (Isa. 40:7,8). God's word wins, and man's words lose, every single time. That is an unalterable rule.

A passge that I've thought about a whole lot lately in regard to these kinds of things, is from Jeremiah where God was skewering the false prophets: "For who hath stood in the counsel of the Lord, and hath perceived and heard his word? who hath marked his word, and heard it? ... and he that hath my word, let him speak my word faithfully. What is the chaff to the wheat? saith the Lord" (Jer. 23:18,28). What is it to me if someone wants to withstand the truth and act like their religious fantasy is reality? I know who is speaking truth and who is speaking error because I HAVE "stood in the counsel of the Lord, and have perceived and marked his word, and heard it." What is it to me if someone would rather hide behind their proud religious bravado, than to come clean and receive understanding for their good? Their fathers didn't like what the prophets, or Jesus, or the apostles, or ANY of the righteous through the ages told them. So what? They even killed a lot of them, thinking they were doing God a service. Did that stop God's word from coming to faithful men who would set it forth in order? I think not! I've heard this nonsensical, "we'll see" more times than I can recall; and every single time I am thinking, "Yeah, you will." And I know what they are going to see. They are going to see that they were resisting the word of the living God, saying all the while that the smoke they were blowing was the word of God. James said, "Shew me thy faith WITHOUT thy works, and I will shew thee my faith BY my works" (Jas. 2:18). And here's what I have to say to all the talking religious heads who are so puffed up on their over much righteous talk: "Show me your 'truth' without good fruit, and I'll show you THE truth BY my fruits." With all of their fair speeches about their superior way of 'righteousness,' one thing you can be certain of regarding those who stubbornly defy truth that comes from heaven - they are steeped in sin: "While they promise them liberty, they themselves are the servants of corruption" (II Pet. 2:19). They may be able to hide their works from men behind their religious bravado on the internet, but nobody can hide their works or their words from God: "I have not sent these prophets, yet they ran: I have not spoken to them, yet they prophesied... Can any hide himself in secret places that I shall not see him? saith the Lord. Do not I fill heaven and earth? saith the Lord" (Jer. 23:21,24). It is a beautiful thing indeed my friend, to know that the words you are speaking are coming directly from heaven. And it is equally as fearful for it to be otherwise. It's high time for God's people to know who is speaking for God, and who it is that is just speaking of and for themselves. Amen.
