Recognize the Truth

I just read a foolish comment that someone made on one of my posts, and the following passage of scripture came to mind: “Who hath directed the Spirit of the LORD, or being his counsellor hath taught him? With whom took he counsel, and who instructed him, and taught him in the path of judgment, and taught him knowledge, and shewed to him the way of understanding?” (Isa. 40:13,14). Now my comment on this is for me, you, and everyone living; and it is this: Do you really think God cares about what you think? Are you kidding me? But we had better care what he thinks and what he says, and we had better cease from our own understanding (Prov. 3:5). When the holy Ghost reveals truth, and it is spoken or written, that’s the end of the matter. The Bible is a good case in point on the subject. It’s up to me and you to be in a state of heart and mind to be able to receive it and agree with it. If you do, you can procure blessing for doing so. If you do not agree with the Spirit of truth that comes from heaven, then that is your own problem, and it can be a big one. It isn’t going to injure God or anyone who does agree with his word if you don’t like it. Solomon said it this way: “If thou be wise, thou shalt be wise for thyself: but if thou scornest, thou alone shalt bear it” (Prov. 9:12). Peter hit the nail on the head with this topic: ”We have also a more sure word of prophecy; whereunto ye do well that ye take heed… Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation” (II Pet. 1:19, 20). A prophet once spoke to an ancient king of Israel in the name of the Lord, and when the king resisted his words, the prophet told him; “I know that God hath determined to destroy thee, because thou hast done this, and hast not hearkened unto my counsel” (II Chron. 25:16). It is a very dangerous thing my friend, to not have “an ear to hear what the Spirit saith..” (Rev. 2:7). May God deal graciously with us all, that we recognize his truth when he sends it forth, in whatever format he chooses. Amen.
