Nothing Original

It’s funny, you hear the word all the time, used in so many venues, but actually it is never really true. “Original.” There simply is nothing that is truly original, not until it goes all the way back to God. The scripture says, “But to us there is but one God, the Father, OF WHOM are all things” (I Cor. 8:6). There is no one who has ever thought of anything original except God. As we have read, all things are “of him.” Everything that man does, or has done, is either an imitation or a perversion of something that God has already established. It isn’t even possible to think of something that God hasn’t made, or to do something that is not according to the order of things that God has established; other than to pervert the same. Satan has perverted everything that God has said and done, and has persuaded a whole lot of folks to do the same. But that doesn’t make it original, only perverted. Every invention man has ever made has been made with material that God made and in imitation of something God has established. The same goes for the word “create.” Man likes to believe that he creates things, but it isn’t even possible. To create is to make something from absolutely nothing. Only God has done, or can do that. It all reminds me of a rarely heard scripture that says a whole lot: “For vain men would be wise, though man be born like a wild ass’s colt” (Job 11:12). Amen.
