Be on God’s Side

“There is no wisdom nor understanding nor counsel against the LORD” (Prov. 21:30). It is not even possible to oppose anything that is of God and win. Not in a million years. But before anyone jumps on the amen bandwagon too quickly, consider this: In the Bible, by and large, it has historically been God’s people who have opposed that which is of God. It was God’s people who rejected and killed the prophets. It was God’s people who rejected Jesus and saw to it that he was put to death. The same was largely true with the apostles (Acts 12:1-4). And let’s not forget Stephen, one of the first martyr of the faith of Christ. On top of that, it has never been the supposed ‘sinners’ among God’s people, or even the common people of God who have opposed those who have stood firm and represented God in righteousness and truth. But it has rather been the leaders of God’s people and those who were religiously zealous, supposedly of God (Mat. 15:8,9). Of course sinners who are not of God’s people have and do oppose God’s works often times, but it has always been those of God’s people who have had the most to lose, that have caused the most damage. Jesus clearly let us know that nothing has changed or will change, when he spoke of the end time: “And then [in the end] shall many be offended, and shall betray one another, and shall hate one another… And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold (Mat. 24:10,12). The love that he was saying will wax cold is "the love of God [that] is shed abroad in our hearts by the holy Ghost” (Rom. 5:5). He again confirmed these things by saying, “And ye shall be betrayed both by parents, and BRETHREN, and kinsfolks, and friends; and some of you shall they cause to be put to death” (Lk. 21:16).

So the truth of the matter is, everyone who is in the kingdom of God today is poised to be on one side of that coin or the other. To the right kind of heart that reality spells godly fear and a sobering motivation to hide themselves with Christ in God (Prov. 22:3; Col. 3:3). Someone under the devil’s influence will routinely think and say, “Well I’m glad I’m on the right side of that coin.” Only the true sheep of God actually believe that they can and will be lost if they do not finish their course filled with God’s love and peace. Another element to this equation is that this reality cannot even be manifested unless there is someone to cause it to be manifested, meaning someone who is walking purely in the love and holiness of God, and speaking nothing but actual revealed truth from God to those around them. That is what Jesus meant when he said the following words: “If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin” (Jn. 15:22). In other words what they were really about was not known until true light came and manifested it (Jn. 3:20,21). So it surely behooves us all to “keep [our] hearts with all diligence,” for at any time God may drop a plumbline in the midst of us to measure and manifest where we are truly at spiritually, and just exactly what we have been following after (Prov. 4:23). We should also beware, lest the following words of Jesus be fulfilled in us: “Jesus said unto them, If ye were blind, ye should have no sin: but now ye say, We see; therefore your sin remaineth” (Jn. 9:41). One thing is certain, if we are found in opposition to what God REALLY has to say, we lose. Amen.
