Scripture and Resurrection

I have just a few words today about something that I consider to be really interesting Bible trivia. It's actually a question, and that question is, Who is the most underrated and forgotten man of the new testament scriptures? The answer has to be someone of great significance who has for the most part been overlooked. I think it's an easy call. Here's my pick, and after reading my argument you can decide whether you agree with it or not: "Wherefore of these men which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and out among us, Beginning from the baptism of John, unto that same day that he was taken up from us, must one be ordained to be a witness with us of his resurrection. And they appointed two, Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus, and Matthias. And they prayed, and said, Thou, Lord, which knowest the hearts of all men, shew whether of these two thou hast chosen, That he may take part of this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas by transgression fell, that he might go to his own place. And they gave forth their lots; and the lot fell upon Matthias; and he was numbered with the eleven apostles" (Acts 1:21-26). There it is: "Joseph called Barsabas, who was surnamed Justus." He has to be my pick for the most significant man of the new testament that has been forgotten and overlooked. Just think, he was all but one of the twelve apostles of the Lamb, who have their names in the twelve foundations of the new Jerusalem (Rev. 21:14). There certainly are none greater in the entire new testament than the twelve apostles of Jesus, with the lone exception of the apostle Paul, who we can put at the same level as they.

This man Joseph, or Justus, was with Jesus and his apostles from the time that Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist until the time when Jesus ascended from the earth to return to heaven. He was among only two men that were considered for replacing Judas who had lost his apostleship for betraying Jesus. One might be left with the impression that this man was lacking something because it was Matthias who was chosen rather than him. I am more inclined to consider how great his faith and love was, that he would be in consideration for the greatest office to have ever been occupied by mortal man. Nonetheless we hear no more about him in the remainder of the new testament writings, and his name is forgotten by most. Actually I could almost consider Matthias as the most forgotten man of great significance, but I am certain that his name is remembered by far more than Justus, simply on the merits that he was the one who was chosen as the twelfth apostle. I am certain that Justus did not leave the upper room after being chosen over, and that he was filled with the holy Ghost on the day of Pentecost, and went on to do great things for the establishment of the faith of Christ. One day we will see what became of him, and what reward he will receive at the great white throne judgment. If I'm a betting man, my money is on Justus obtaining a very great reward for his love and service for Jesus. But for now I have to feel like he's the Bible equivalent of the team that lost in the Super Bowl. Just remember however that there is no higher office or position in the faith of Christ than the twelve apostles of the Lord, so I believe it's going to be tough to get anyone else into that spot.
