Repairing the Temple

I have just a few words about some things that the Lord was revealing to me earlier today about healing. In old testament Israel near the end of the kingdom of Judah, one of the greatest of Israel or Judah’s kings arose, Josiah by name. Josiah had a genuine zeal for the Lord and sought to abolish idolatry in the kingdom when he was still very young. In the eighteenth year of his reign he determined to repair the temple of the Lord that had been left in great disrepair over the long duration of the wicked reign of Manasseh the son of Hezekiah. When the repair of the temple got under way the book of the law was found, which had been cast aside for many years (II Chron. 34:1-18). The law was in fact the covenant between God and his people of Israel, but it had long been neglected and forsaken of his people. Understand also that the law was the written expression of God’s will, which is to say it was the expression of his heart and his mind. So in this instance the repair of the temple brought about or revealed the law or will of God. In the old testament the temple of God was a physical building that was built by men, but under the new covenant our bodies themselves are the temple of God if so be we have received God’s Spirit into our lives (Jn. 2:21; I Cor. 6:19). What the Lord showed me is very simple, and it is that healing is the repairing of the new testament temple or temples, and through healing the heart and mind of God is revealed.

The heart, or mind, or will of God is holy love, and love always does good to its neighbor (Rom. 13:10). The healing of our body is a very good thing and it is something that God both loves to do and wants to do at all times. It is never God’s will to not heal someone of a physical affliction. Jesus showed that plainly when he was here, by healing every single person who came to him for healing. None were turned away, proving that it is clearly God’s will to heal us if we will believe that about him. Healing always accompanied the preaching ministry of Jesus, and the scripture tells us that “Jesus Christ [is] the same yesterday, today, and forever” (Heb. 13:8). What that means is that healing needs to accompany our ministry of the Gospel of Christ today. God does not lightly esteem our body, especially considering that our body is his temple if we have his Spirit. In fact he cares so much about our body that he will raise it from the dead and glorify it with eternal substance when Jesus comes from heaven back to this world (Rom. 8:11; I Cor. 15:51-54; Philip. 2:21). That is of course if we are pure in heart and free from sin when we depart this life (Mat. 5:8; Heb. 12:14; I Jn. 3:3; Rev. 20:6). So the point here is that God’s will of love and goodness toward us is revealed by the healing of our bodies, or the repairing of his temple.
