Nobody has ever managed to 'figure out' who God is or what he's all about

Nobody has ever managed to 'figure out' who God is or what he's all about. It simply can't be done. The scripture tells us the same: "For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to nothing the understanding of the prudent. Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe" (I Cor. 1:19-21). Regarding "the foolishness of preaching," the Bible also informs us of the following: "How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!" (Rom. 10:14,15). What it comes down to is if someone wants to find out the reality of God, and of his Son Jesus Christ, they are going to have to believe someone else's report other than their own mind. I was talking to someone earlier tonight who says he is "trying to figure out what life is about." Like many, he has an issue with believing in a God that can't readily be seen with the eyes or heard with the ears. I told him why I believe in Jesus and serve him in my life. I explained how that I was in a lot of need years ago, and someone asked me to go to a little Pentecostal mission, and I went. I told him how I observed for about a month, and one night I went home to find out if these people were telling the truth or not. I had years of drug and marijuana addiction, as well as alcohol abuse, and anger and cursing problems. So I told the Lord if he would take all of that away from me miraculously in an instant, then I would know that he is the true and only way and that I would serve him. Jesus did what I asked him to do, and I have done what I said I would do, for many years now.

I explained to this man how that God miraculously and completely healed me of the pain of my mother's death, and of my father's death eighteen years later. I could have gone on, and on and on with the miracles of God that have been present in my life for the past number of years; but the point is that I gave the man plenty of reason to believe the Gospel. I clearly expounded to him how God created the world and gave it to man, but man messed the whole thing up really bad. I explained that God loves man so much, and desires his fellowship so greatly, that he eventually sent his only begotten Son to suffer the penalty of death in man's place, so that man could be redeemed from his sins and corrupted state, back into fellowship and harmony with God. I also told him that there is a way to in essence see God, and that he can be heard if you are willing to listen. So do I think that this man should just believe my report, and then go on his way with a faith in Jesus about my life? Of course not. What he needs to do is be open to what he heard, and go to Jesus himself with a similar request so that he can know for himself that Jesus is who he is, and that he's done what he's done for him, me, and all living. But what is NOT going to happen, and I informed him of this as well, is that he will 'figure out' God, or this life, or whatever you want to call it. The only way that anyone can find God is from a real need of the heart that is expressed to God with faith and humility. Again the scripture confirms this: "For with the HEART man believeth unto righteousness" (Rom. 9:10). But if we reject "the foolishness of preaching," and are not open minded to it, then we have nowhere to go and no way to obtain the true knowledge and reality of who God is. God has ordained it to be that way, and so it is.

The scripture says of those who are one with Christ and remain that way; "But ye have an unction from the Holy One, and ye know all things" (I Jn. 2:20). The word 'unction' is referring to the anointing, meaning the Spirit of God. This same passage goes on to say, "But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him" (I Jn. 2:27). The truth is, if we have been redeemed to God by real faith in the death and resurrection of Jesus, and we have attained unto divine joy, love, and peace; then we know the answer to the questions people have about the meaning of this life. We know that there is an absolute and certain hope of eternal life to come, if and when we depart from this life in a state of true holiness, meaning without sin (I Jn. 3:2,3; Heb. 12:14; Rev. 20:6). We know that we can live this life with a peace that "passes all understanding," and that we can have it when everything is going wrong as well as when things are running smoothly (Psm. 4:7; Philip. 4:7). We know that we can live free from sin, and we know that Jesus will heal us of any and all physical, spiritual, or any other kind of infirmities (Rom. 6:1,2,6,12). We know also that he will always care for all of our provision if we trust him and serve him faithhfully (Mat. 6:33; Philip. 4:19). And maybe best of all we know that he earnestly desires to do all of the above for those who do not yet believe. So like the beloved apostle stated, we really do "know all things." What this means is that we all have a lot of 'preaching' to do, and we all have a lot to preach about. Jesus died for our sins, and he rose from the dead conquering sin and death, to give us the same capacity and the same result. We need to live in that reality, and we need to show and tell the world what this life is all about. We have the answers, they have the questions, and God has ordained us to "the foolishness of preaching" so that he can save many. It's that simple.
