The Nature of God and Scripture

I'm not sure why I haven't written on this topic as yet, but in short order I would like to tell about something the Lord revealed to me two or three years ago sitting in my basement. It's about how the Son of God was begotten by the Father. We know that Jesus is called "the only begotten of the Father" (Jn. 1:14). The scriptures also tell us that he was begotten of the Father before anything or anyone else existed (Col. 1:15,17). For that matter we are told that in fact it was Jesus Christ who actually created all things that exist, both in heaven and in earth (Jn. 1:3; Eph. 3:9; Col. 1:16). So it is evident that he was begotten before anything or anyone else was created, seeing he created all things that exist. This is also why Jesus is referred to as "the beginning" (Col. 1:18; Rev. 3:14). This could be a really long post, even a book in fact, but there are just a couple of key things I want to point out that clearly show us HOW the Son was begotten of the Father. The actual revelation of this monumental truth is clearly stated by the scriptures repeatedly. Let's just go to the famous verse from John 1:1 for the answer: "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God." Three times in this one verse Jesus Christ the Son of God is called "the Word of God." It's simple really, the scripture means exactly what it says; Jesus is literally the Word of God. This is how this understanding came to me: God was alone for no one knows how long, and in fact the length of 'time' that he was alone couldn't possibly be measured or understood by anyone but himself; seeing he wasn't even in time, but rather he was in eternity. God never had a beginning, and that is why his Son is called "the beginning." The way that Jesus came into being was after however long God had been by himself, he finally decided to speak. Think about it. God had never spoken before because there was no one to speak to, and there was nothing to talk about. He was simply in joyful contentment being himself, with nothing else in existence.

God did not need to speak, and he didn't need a Son, but he wanted one. God has never needed anything, but rather everything he has ever done has been because he wanted to do it. When God finally spoke, the only possible thing he could speak was to simply express himself, literally. Again, there was nothing else to talk about because nothing else existed, or ever had. So when he spoke, what came out was a perfect expression of himself, and that expression was another being exactly like himself in nature and substance. That is the only possibility, and that is why Jesus is referred to as "the express image of his [God's] person" (Heb. 1:3). Yes, God's only begotten Son Jesus Christ is the [expressed] image of the person of the Father because he is indeed THE expression OF the Father. What this means is that the substance of Christ was IN the Father before he was begotten, but he did not become a concious, separate, bodily person until the Father spoke and expressed himself. This is why Jesus is also called God, and how he alone is the only being in existence who is deity, other than God the Father (Heb. 1:8).There is no other possibility because he alone was directly 'begotten' from the Father's body and being. So Jesus is the Word of God simply because he was spoken into being by God, literally. Because he came wholly from the Father's substance, he cannot possibly be anything other than exactly like the Father in his nature. That is why he could say the following: "Have I been so long time with you, and yet hast thou not known me, Philip? he that hath seen me hath seen the Father; and how sayest thou then, Show us the Father?" (Jn. 14:9) He said the same thing in another place, in slightly different words: "These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness" (Rev. 3:14). He is the "so be it" of God, and he is the perfect representation of the Father, because he was the first expression of the Father that was ever brought forth. So much more can be said and will be, but for now this is the truth I feel to convey. God bless.
