Too Good To Be True?

The reason that many people just can’t simply believe God’s love and care for them, and entrust their whole lives to him, is that he is just too good to be true. And I admit it, he really is. This world has been steeped in sin and turmoil for so long, and everyone is so familiarized with deceit, treachery, abuse, betrayal, lies, cheating, pride, competition, envy, jealousy, fear, suspicion, etc.; that many find it difficult to believe God to be as faithful, pure and complete in love and goodness as he truly is. Not only so, but anyone with even half way good sense knows that anything that sounds too good to be true, IS too good to be true. But I can tell you by long experience that God is even BETTER than too good to be true! He is far better than advertised, and none living have ever been able to tell more than a fraction of his glorious love, and care, and goodness; because in reality he is SO good that it defies description or knowledge. The apostle Paul said it this way: “For we know in part, and we prophesy in part… For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known” (I Cor. 13:9,12). Even Jesus could not tell the vastness of his Father’s love, and power, and goodness; simply because he had to communicate with earthly men, who are so very limited in their capacity to hear and take in what he said and could have said. Jesus was sent to earth to deal with men, on an earthly level, and in dealing with men he simply could not go beyond what they could get a grasp of. How true the scripture rings, “Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him" (I Cor. 2:9). Ditto on this one as well: "And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge” (Eph. 3:19).

Being surrendered to, and in the service of God through his Son Jesus, is truly the ultimate win-win situation. There are pros and cons to anything and everything that has to do with this life, but I assure you there are no cons with serving the Almighty, only pros. For truly, “we know that ALL THINGS work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose” (Rom. 8;28). Even the most difficult of things that we have to deal with can only produce something good in our lives that will both enhance our love, and joy, and peace; and bring due glory to the God who carries us and strengthens us, if we will trust fully in him and refuse to depart from his holiness and love. “For the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timotheus, was not yea and nay, but in him was yea. For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us " (II Cor. 1:19,20). All I can say is YEA and AMEN to that! Yes it is true my friend, that God wants only to love you and I and care for us in a way that just isn’t possible among men; and he wants more than anything for us to be where he is for all eternity. All he requires is our faith and faithfulness, and as the beloved apostle said, "For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous [hard to do]" (I Jn. 5:3). So the only thing that makes sense to me is to demonstrate to him daily that I want more than anything to please him and to be with him forever. The only alternative is to demonstrate to him by unbelief and disobedience that we do not want his care, and that we prefer to be separated from him. That makes no sense to me at all. I choose to believe the God who truly is too good to be true, but yet is even better than that. Amen.
