He’s Always There

We should often get very still and look very closely at the things that really are, and take the time to appreciate what God has done as much as we possibly can. And I mean the things that we already know, because we know nothing but in part, and we should always seek to make that part broader and deeper (I Cor. 8:2; I Cor. 13:9,12). I’m not talking about trying to find out vast and deep mysteries that don’t even exist. I’m talking about the real things of God that we know by personal experience to be real. Here’s the one I want to dwell on today: He’s always there, meaning he’s always there with us and for us if we have his Spirit dwelling in us. If you haven’t received his Spirit and you are reading this, then it’s for sure that he’s trying to put you in a position to receive it. Think of how great the following promise really is: “I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee” (Heb. 13:5). Now that's God that said that, and it’s for all who truly believe on him. He is just simply always there! Praise God!! He is there when you can feel him there, and he is there when you can’t feel him there. That is so wonderful! He is there when times are good, and he’s there when times are bad. He’s there when we are shouting, and he’s there when we are weeping. He is there when we’re working, and he’s there when we’re at leisure. And he’s not just there, but he’s there to be reached and to help in all things at all times. He’s there when we are well, and he is there when we are sick. In fact the Bible states that for the man who pities the poor, “The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness" (Psm. 41:3). Oh my friend, that’s more than good wholesome reading; I’ve been there and done that, and I know it is a living, powerful reality.

Someone recently asked me what It means in the Bible, ‘to watch.’ They thought it meant that we’re supposed to be watching the sky for the return of Jesus. But I explained that it simply means to stay awake spiritually, to stay in prayer, and to stay spiritually minded by staying in the condition of true faith. I told this individual that I could not count the times that I have been in trouble in dreams, even unto death, and my immediate reaction has always been to call on the Lord. He has never failed to deliver me, and that’s in my dreams! The point is that I am ‘watching’ even when I’m asleep, because I’ve conditioned myself according to God’s grace to ‘watch’ continually when I’m awake. So I know by experience that he is absolutely always there for us, even when we’re sleeping! Oh I just don’t know how it can get any better than that! Unless it’s when I consider that ”all things work together for good for those who love God.“ Then we can top that off with this: "What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be against us?" (Rom. 8:28,31). Well, he is for us, and that means that there is nothing or nobody who can truly work against us. Anyone working against someone who is in love with Jesus is only working against themselves. No wonder Jesus commanded us to pray for such people, and do good to them. My friend, just think about it: He's always there, he’s always for us, and nothing can truly work against us; "For there is no power but of God" (Rom. 13:1). For more confirmation the scripture says that he "works all things after the counsel of his own will,” and as we have seen, his will is for our good (Eph. 1:11). Only in this case can one say in truth, “It doesn’t get any better than that.” Amen!
