The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear

"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell. Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident" (Psm. 27:1:3). This is the testimony of all who truly make God their entire trust, and that testimony is going to be greatly needed for any and all who hope to endure the time to come, and the things that are going to come upon this world. Anyone can say "amen" simply because anyone can speak words. To say "amen" to this passage of scripture, and it truly BE amen, is another thing. Trust me friend, if we don't have it real, we WILL be found out: "And there shall be signs in the sun, and in the moon, and in the stars; and upon the earth distress of nations, with perplexity; the sea and the waves roaring; Men's hearts failing them for fear, and for looking after those things which are coming on the earth: for the powers of heaven shall be shaken" (Lk. 21:25,26). And among the number of those whose hearts will fail in fear, will be many who once possessed the love of God but allowed it to fade: "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved" (Mat. 24:12,13). So how is it that the testimony of fearlessness can truly be acquired? "There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love" (I Jn. 4:18). And who is it that actually has perfect love? "And every man that hath this hope in him purifieth himself, even as he is pure" (I Jn. 3:3). It really is that simple. If we purify our hearts daily by the power of God's Spirit from everything that is contrary to the love of God, we will be perfect, or complete in love. And in that state there is no fear other than the clean fear of God (Psm. 19:9). If we maintain that state till the end of our lives we will have the testimony that is declared in our opening text, and we will be saved as Jesus said. No wonder Jesus said, "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God" (Mat. 5:8). Amen.
