The Only True Security

In a world that is ever increasing in threats of collapsing economies, war, natural disasters, crime, disease, and last but not least, immorality; a lot of folks are trying to figure out some way to stay safe and maintain provision. Personally, I know I certainly like the idea of safety and provision for myself and my loved ones, as I’m sure you can identify with as well. The good news is that while none of us can guarantee safety or provision to ourselves or anyone else, there is a simplistic reality that presents us with the very greatest chance for these things that exists in this life. It’s a two-fold truth, and absolutely proven of old time. Our surest hope of having safety and adequate provision in times of great need and distress is to be sincerely thankful toward God from our hearts now, and to be truly merciful in the way we view and deal with people on a regular basis. It really is that simple. If that is the way we are geared, then we are going to have the greatest place of security that exists in the earth, whether in good times or hard times. The Psalmist wrote by inspiration of the holy Ghost: “Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name” (Psm. 100:4). To this the apostle Paul agreed heartily: Rejoice in the Lord alway: and again I say, Rejoice… Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God” (Philip. 4:4,6). There simply is no better way to put yourself in a position for God to make a way for you when things get toygh and provision gets scarce, than to be thankful from the heart for all things when times are good. After all, it is God alone who has power to give or to withold from all the earth; and from him alone comes all provision (Psm. 62:11; Job 1:21; Psm. 104:21; Mat. 6:25-33). In time of famine, Elijah was instructed by God to go to the brook Cherith where he both drank and was brought food by ravens twice a day. After the brook dried up, God sent him to a woman in Sidon where he miraculously sustained him, the woman, and her son, many days on a serving of meal that was good for maybe two people one time (I Ki. 17:1-16). It pays to be faithful with God at all times.

As for showing mercy Jesus plainly stated, “Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy” (Mat. 5:7). Seeing that every gift, beginning with life itself and including everything that has anything at all to do with good, comes from God; I think it’s safe to say that obtaining mercy is the key to all good, help, safety, provision, etc. And seeing that God is “the judge of all the earth,” and that it is “his judgments [that] are in all the earth;” the scripture bellows truth loud and clear that says, “For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment” (Gen. 18:25; Psm. 105:7; Jas. 2:13). And the Psalm really tells the story when it says, “Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble. The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. The LORD will strengthen him upon the bed of languishing: thou wilt make all his bed in his sickness” (Psm. 41:1-3). Wow! PRAISE GOD!!! How’s that for safety and security?!! I don’t know about you friend, but I really like the sound of that! And not only so, but I’ve been there and done that, and I know by personal experience that it is absolutely, positively the truth. Or maybe this one will grab your attention: “Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone” (Psm. 91:5-12). Oh goodness friend, what can I possibly add to that? Only this: These promises are all very real - for those who are very real with God. Amen and God bless.
