Obedience and Scripture

In Deuteronomy 28, the great 'blessings and curses' chapter, there are thirteen verses that describe the blessings for the obedience of God's people to his will. On the other hand there are fifty four verses that detail the curses that God will bring upon his people for their disobedience. You may not have been aware of that scriptural fact, but we need to not only know this truth of the scriptures, but we also need to know WHY it is that way. On the surface someone may think that God is a harsh taskmaster who just loves to bring hard judgments on his people for their failures. Quite the opposite is true however. The curses for disobedience are so graphically and deliberately stated with such length and detail because God wants only to bless his people. The scripture plainly tells us, "by the fear of the LORD men depart from evil" (Prov. 16:6). The fear of the Lord is at the top of the list for divine elements that are both missing and needed in the lives of God's people today. The over emphasis of Christianity's version of "God is love," which has omitted the fear of God; has served to harden the hearts of God's people against his fear, and consequently they have NOT "departed from evil." The result is A body of Christ that has had to be judged by God with weakness, sickness, division, and a crippled state that sadly fulfills the prophecy of Isaiah: "We have been with child, we have been in pain, we have as it were brought forth wind; we have not wrought any deliverance in the earth; neither have the inhabitants of the world fallen" (I Cor. 11:27-32; Isa. 26:18).

God's people have not caused the wickedness of the inhabitants of this world to fall because they have not learned to "reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment;" which Jesus said was one of the main reasons for the holy Ghost being made available to men (Jn. 16:8). This has not happened because the fear of the Lord has not been taught and imparted to the body of Christ, and therefore the body of Christ has not departed from sin, and therefore CANNOT reprove a sinful world. The mushy "God is love" mentality of Christianity has only promoted the continuance of sin in the lives of those who adhere to this sin-excusing form of doctrine. It's a wrong love added to a wrong God in that equation, and it has produced a wrong sum total that has "not wrought any deliverance [from sin] in the earth. While appearing to be so gracious, this sin-friendly mindset and doctrine has herded those who listen to it right into a corral of judgment from God. Who do you suppose is behind that sweet talking trickery? So let me conclude this article with a little note on 'grace,' which word has been grossly distorted to support the squishy-squashy Christianity version of 'God is love:' "Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: For our God is a consuming fire" (Heb. 12:28,29). If you truly want to know the holy love of God my friend, depart from that which is evil in the sight of God, and allow God to bless you the way he truly desires. Amen.
