The Language of Prophecy

I have just a few things today regarding the spirit of prophecy, and the language that God speaks. When Mary visited Elisabeth she prophesied while Jesus was yet in her womb, and Jesus grew up to speak the exact same things that Mary prophesied. What is it? It’s the same spirit of prophecy, which is the holy Ghost, which alone speaks and reveals truth that comes from heaven. Here are Mary’s words: “He hath shewed strength with his arm; he hath scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts. He hath put down the mighty from their seats, and exalted them of low degree. He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away” (Lk. 1:51-53). And here are the equivalent words spoken by Jesus about thirty years later: “For judgment I am come into this world, that they which see not might see; and that they which see might be made blind” (Jn. 9:39). That is the proud being “scattered in the imagination of their hearts.” Next we have this: “For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted” (Lk. 14:11). That is the mighty being brought down from their seats,“ along with "those of low degree being exalted.” And finally we see this from Jesus: “Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled… But woe unto you that are rich! for ye have received your consolation. Woe unto you that are full! for ye shall hunger” (Lk. 6:21,24,25). That of course is the hungry being “filled with good things,” and the rich being “sent empty away.” Those who are led and taught by the Spirit of God are the only people who speak God’s language, because that language comes only by the spirit of prophecy which is the holy Ghost. Many today are caught up in probing so much into Greek and Hebrew, and don’t even realize the only language that truly matters, which is the language of God’s Spirit. Greek is good and Hebrew is good as well, but Jesus said something repeatedly in the book of Revelation that we cannot afford to miss: “He that hath and ear, let him hear what the SPIRIT SAITH” (Rev. 2:7; etc.). The Spirit of God speaks ONE LANGUAGE my friend, and that language is TRUTH! God’s mind and will never change, and that is why Jesus was speaking the exact same things when he grew up that his own mother prophesied before he was born. The truth of the matter is that ALL of the faithful throughout all generations have ALWAYS spoken the same things in regard to the realities and truths of God; because they have all followed after the same and only spirit of prophecy, which IS THE HOLY GHOST!

The religious hierarchy of Jesus day who rejected him, claimed to follow the teachings of Moses. In fact they pointedly said the following about Moses, and about Jesus: “We know that God spake unto Moses: as for this fellow, we know not from whence he is” (Jn. 9:29). But they were NOT following the same Spirit that Moses followed, and they were therefore NOT speaking the same language that Moses spoke. Jesus gave it to them straight, and he gave it to them in the exact same language that Moses would have given it to them in if he had been there: “For had ye believed Moses, ye would have believed me; for he wrote of me. But if ye believe not his writings, how shall ye believe my words?” (Jn. 5:46,47). Though these people READ Moses’ writings, they DID NOT HEAR what he said, meaning they did not believe what he said, as Jesus told them. They believed what THEY THOUGHT he said, but they were hearing “the imagination of their own hearts,” and therefore speaking another language than what both Moses and Jesus spoke. Moses and Jesus spoke the language of God’s Spirit of truth, and the Pharisees and Sadducees had no “ear to hear what THAT Spirit had to say.” They were indeed “the mighty that were brought down from their seats,” and they were the “rich who were sent empty away.” They did not feel the need for what Jesus brought to the table, so “those of low estate” who DID need Jesus to show them the way were exalted by God; just like Mary prophesied, and just like Jesus taught. The truth is that if we are professing faith in Jesus Christ we are on one side of that equation or the other. Nothing has changed, only the names and faces. There are still those who hear and follow the same Spirit of truth that all of the righteous through the ages have followed, and there are still those who follow a religious spirit that is contrary to God’s Spirit, while claiming to follow Jesus. We should be very certain when we speak of the Gospel of Christ, that we are speaking the same language that Mary, Moses, and Jesus spoke. If we “have an ear to hear what the Spirit says,” we will naturally speak the language of the spirit of prophecy which is the holy Ghost. Amen.
