Judgment and Truth
"God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds; Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high: Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. For unto which of the angels said he at any time, Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee? And again, I will be to him a Father, and he shall be to me a Son? ... But unto the Son he saith, Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever: a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of thy kingdom. Thou hast loved righteousness, and hated iniquity; therefore God, even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil of gladness above thy fellows" (Heb. 1:1-5,8,9). Wow! What a passage of power and truth! Allow me if you will, to just point out a few really, really powerful aspects of truth that are written here in this short passage. Verse 2 is the first bombshell, where it plainly states that God HAS APPOINTED his Son to be the "heir of all things," and also that God "made the worlds" BY his Son (Rom. 8:17; Eph. 3:9). Next in verse 3 we see that Jesus Christ is "the express image of [God's] person." So the Father is a person, meaning he has body, soul, and Spirit; and the Son is his "express image." The Hebrew word for express image is "khar-ak-tare," which is defined as follows: "the exact expression (the image) of any person or thing, marked likeness, precise reproduction in every respect, i.e facsimile." So it is evident that the Father has a body, and that the Son has his own body as well, because he is a facsimile of his Father (Gen. 1:26). And for confirmation of the same, we see also in verse 3 that the Son "sat down at the right hand of [God]" (Psm. 110:1). In verse 4 we are clearly told that the Son was "made" by the Father, again showing that there are two persons, the Father being greater than the Son (Rev. 3:14; Prov. 8:22; Jn. 14:28). Verse 4 also shows that the Son "OBTAINED a more excellent name" from the Father. In verse 5 the truth is set forth that God begat the Son, and seeing he "made the worlds by him," that begetting had to take place before anything else existed (Col. 1:15-17; Prov. 8:24,25). And then verses 8 and 9 just explode with power, when TWO TIMES God the Father calls his Son "God." And there, along with what we have already seen, we have the revealed truth of John 1:1-3, which says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made." Verse 9 also shows that God the Father "anointed [the Son] with the oil of gladness..."
Now that is very key to this whole understanding of the Father and the Son, because of this: There is NO OTHER anointing of God in existence OTHER THAN THE SPIRIT OF GOD! (Jn. 14:26; I Jn. 2:20,27). You see, the holy Ghost is NOT a third person, but rather it is the divine life, nature, and power, that God has endued his Son with; and that enduing took place before anything else ever existed: "I was SET UP from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was" (Prov. 8:23). The term "set up" in this verse comes from the Hebrew word "naw-sak," and its meaning is "to pour out... to anoint a king." So God begat his Son as "the firstborn of every creature" before all else existed, and poured out into him the same anointing of divine life that already existed in himself, as Jesus also told us: "For as the Father hath life in himself; so hath he given to the Son to have life in himself" (Jn. 5:26). And what did Jesus come to provide for you and I? "I am come that they might have LIFE, and that they might have it more abundantly" (Jn. 10:10). And for what purpose did he come to bestow this divine life upon us? "That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me" (Jn. 17:21). So there is the truth of the Father and the Son. They are "one" by means of having the same divine life and nature, which is the holy Ghost. That is how they are "in" one another, as Jesus stated, and that is how those who have that same Spirit "may be one in [them]." That is why there is no mention of the holy Ghost in Hebrews 1, or in the two places where Jesus proclaimed that he and his Father are one; because the Spirit IS the oneness between them (Jn. 10:30; Jn. 17:21,22). It is interesting to note as well, that in the salutations of the apostle Paul to the believers that he wrote to, when he made mention that the salutation was also from God the Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ; that he never claimed any salutation from "the Holy Spirit." Reason being the holy Spirit is not a person, but rather it is the divine, anointing life that inspired the writings. So the "oneness" of God is not that there is one person, or that there are three persons that are somehow one. Nobody has a "person" inside of them, heavenly or otherwise; but we have both the Father and the Son inside us IN SPIRIT, if we have the Spirit (Jn. 14:23). There are two persons, the Father and the Son, and they are one by means of sharing the same divine life. It really is that simple. There is no "Trinity," and no "Jesus Only;" just the Father, the Son, and all those who will be one in and with them by receiving and walking in the "Spirit of life" (Rom. 8:2; I Cor. 6:17). Amen.
