Need some conviction of the holy Ghost? This one never fails. People need to learn to pray more, talk less, type less, text less, and think less. If God's people would spend a fourth of the time in prayer that is being spent in these other things mentioned, you would see the world turned upside down with the power, love, and truth of God's Spirit. You don't believe that? God evidently does: "If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land" (II Crn. 7:14). Jesus believes it: "And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; Saying, There was in a city a judge, which feared not God, neither regarded man: And there was a widow in that city; and she came unto him, saying, Avenge me of mine adversary. And he would not for a while: but afterward he said within himself, Though I fear not God, nor regard man; Yet because this widow troubleth me, I will avenge her, lest by her continual coming she weary me. And the Lord said, Hear what the unjust judge saith. And shall not God avenge his own elect, which cry day and night unto him, though he bear long with them? I tell you that he will avenge them speedily. Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" (Lk. 18:1-8). I could list plenty of others who were in agreement with this, but do we really need more witnesses than God and his Son? Jesus said it, and I'll cite it again for real good measure: "Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth?" And what kind of faith will the Son of man be looking for when he returns to the earth? The kind he said, that of "his own elect, which cry day and night unto him." Nothing difficult there my friend. Peter had a good saying that is well known, but how well practiced is it? "Cast all your care upon him; for he careth for you" (I Pet. 5:7). Too many people have conditioned themselves to tending to their own cares, and to the cares of others, in a very unproductive manner; NOT casting those cares sufficiently on the Lord, either their own or those of others. Maybe a lot of folks ought to take a sobering look at the scripture right after the one I just quoted from Peter, because it is a warning of the result of not following his divine instruction: "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour" (I Pet. 5:8).

If you are inconsistent about staying under much prayer, I assure you the devil will find the resulting cracks in your armor and go right straight through them to your heart and soul. The apostle Paul gave the same kind of instruction and he also told us the result of keeping it: "Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus" (Philip. 4:6,7). It really is that simple. But a whole lot of folks will do a whole lot of things, including a whole lot of religious service and activity; but yet shun their very life line and point of communion with the Savior that they are trying to serve. It simply does not work my friend. Never has, never will. Jesus is coming back for a people who "cry day and night unto him," even as he said. Reason being that those are the only ones who are NOT devoured by Satan, and those are the only ones who will possess the peace that passes all understanding, which things are stated from the scriptures above. When people start conditioning themselves to continuing in much prayer every day, they begin to find less to talk about, type about, and text about; other than how good God is. And when folks start putting their nose to the grindstone every day, and seeking God diligently as if their lives and souls depend on it, they find that they have a lot less problems and a lot less time and motivation to talk about other people's faults and problems. If pastors would make it a point to compel their congregations to pray much always, they would find that they would be spending less time dealing with people's problems. Teach people to get Jesus to deal with their problems, and everyone will be a lot happier and freer from stress. When people get busy praying more and wasting time less, they will find the meaning of the following admonition of the apostle Paul: "And that ye study to be quiet, and to do your own business, and to work with your own hands, as we commanded you" (I Thess. 4:11). I have to say, that is some really good advice, or rather a very serious commandment of the Lord. If you've made it through this post and now you're rejoicing with praise and shouting, chances are you've been on track doing the right things. If not, then get busy with prayer, and less busy with frivolity; lest when Jesus comes you are found without the faith he will be looking for. Amen.
