8 [Love] never faileth: but whether there be prophecies, they shall fail; whether there be tongues, they shall cease; whether there be knowledge, it shall vanish away.

9 For we know in part, and we prophesy in part.

10 But when that which is perfect is come, then that which is in part shall be done away.

11 When I was a child, I spake as a child, I understood as a child, I thought as a child: but when I became a man, I put away childish things.

12 For now we see through a glass, darkly; but then face to face: now I know in part; but then shall I know even as also I am known.

13 And now abideth faith, hope, [love], these three; but the greatest of these is [love].

To say"when that which is perfect is come," is to say 'when that which is complete is come.' The word 'perfect' means 'complete,' and the completion of all things will be the establishment of the new heavens and the new earth (Rev. 21:1,2). That is when we will see 'face to face' because that will be the first time that the face of God will have been seen by any man. The reason that the love of God is greater than faith and hope is because "when that which is [complete] is com," faith and hope will also have ceased. Both faith and hope are altogether about things that are unseen, and the establishment of the new heavens and the new earth will merge the physical realm with the spiritual realm; and there will be NOTHING LEFT THAT IS UNSEEN! That will be when "[we] will know even as we also are known." There will be nothing left to know because we will be in the completed reality of all that is, and all that has ever been. Wow! Praise God!

When God unites the physical realm with the spiritual realm the love of God will be all that is left, because God, who is love, will be physically present; and everyone and everything else who is in that world will be full of the love of God. That is in fact why they will be there, because they lived in the love of God during their lifetime on earth. So there will be nothing left to hope for, and nothing left to believe in, because all that has ever been hoped for and believed in will be up close and personal in every conceivable way. But there will still be plenty of love to go around. No wonder Jesus gave us only 'one new commandment:' "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another" (Jn. 13:34). "And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold. But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved" (Mat. 24:12,13).
