There were three kinds of laws within 'the law' of the old testament

There were three kinds of laws within 'the law' of the old testament. One being the moral laws, secondly the civil laws, and thirdly the ceremonial laws. Moral laws applied to the manner in which people are required to live among one another. Civil laws were an enforcement of the moral laws, and penalties for breaking them. Ceremonial laws were all ritualistic, carnal, and symbolic of something that would be established by Jesus after a spiritual order. The moral laws are the same now, except that they are magnified due to increased capacity to keep them by the power of God's Spirit. The civil laws are in the hands of the land we live in, seeing the body of Christ is a spiritual nation, and not a carnal nation like Israel of old. The ceremonial laws are fulfilled in the Spirit, meaning they are no longer in effect in a carnal manner. When the apostle Paul said, "For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth," it was the ceremonial law that he was speaking of (Rom. 10:4). In fact it was errant Jews in the body of Christ that Paul was in conflict with throughout his ministry, who were trying to impose the ceremonial law onto the Gentile believers (Acts 15:12,24; II Cor. 11:4,13-15,22,23; Gal. 1:6,7; Gal. 3:1-3; Gal. 4:9-11; Gal. 5:1-4; Philip. 3:1-5; etc.). In short order, it is a total disesteem to Jesus Christ, and a contradiction to the grace and truth that he established, to teach that any new covenant believer must keep ANY ceremonial ordinance of the law. That is why Paul wrote things like this: "For we ARE the circumcision, which worship God IN THE SPIRIT, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh" (Philip. 3:3). "No confidence in the flesh" means no regard for ordinances of the law that merely pertained to the body but could do nothing for the heart. Why should we have no regard for those things? "For even CHRIST OUR PASSOVER is sacrificed for us" (I Cor. 5:7). "And ye are COMPLETE IN HIM, which is the head of all principality and power: IN WHOM; also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in baptism [of the Spirit], wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead" (Col. 2:10-12). "That the righteousness of the law might be FULFILLED IN US, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit" (Rom. 8:4). What Jesus accomplished was the one thing that the law could NOT accomplish, namely to get sin out of the hearts and souls of men (Rom. 8:2,3; Gal. 3:21; Heb. 7:19; Heb. 10:1-4).

When one is baptized BY JESUS with the holy Ghost, which he suffered, died, and rose again to establish; they are IN CHRIST and have had all the law written in their heart, thus fulfilling it (I Cor. 12:13; Mk. 1:7,8; II Cor. 5:17; II Cor. 3:3; Heb. 10:15,16; Rom. 8:3,4). Like fulfilled prophecy that is no longer in effect, the law in its old covenant form is no longer in effect; being FULFILLED in those who are baptized into Christ by his Spirit, who "walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit." To continue in natural ordinances of the law is to plainly say that the completed work of Jesus Christ is not sufficient, but that we must keep things that only symbolized and pointed the way to him, in order to be fully right. That is exactly what the erring Jewish 'ministers' in Paul's day were putting across, and that is why Paul wrote all that he wrote on the fulfillment of the law in Christ. "Behold, I Paul say unto you, that if ye be circumcised, Christ shall profit you nothing. For I testify again to every man that is circumcised, that he is a debtor to do the whole law. Christ is become of no effect unto you, whosoever of you are justified by the law; ye are fallen from grace" (Gal. 5:2-4). Paul did not 'condemn' circumcision, but rather he condemned those who were trying to impose the ceremonial law onto the Gentiles, who had never been under the old covenant to begin with. Peter even got in his line of fire once when he separated himself in Antioch from Gentile believers, being afraid of what Jews coming from Jerusalem were going to think of him (Gal. 2:14). Paul made it crystal clear to him that this covenant is all about faith in Jesus, and NOTHING about the old covenant format of the law: "I do not frustrate the grace of God: for if righteousness come by the law, then Christ is dead in vain" (Gal. 2:21). The only way to honor Jesus in worship is to rely completely on what he suffered, died, and rose again to provide for us; and that is his Spirit which in fact IS THE LAW! The holy Ghost is the NEW COVENANT format of the law, and in fact the holy Ghost literally is the ONLY presence of Jesus Christ in this world: "Now the Lord is that Spirit: and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty" (II Cor. 3:17).

To practice natural ordinances now is to disobey Jesus Christ, for only by being LED BY HIS SPIRIT are we in obedience to him: "For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" (Acts 5:32; Rom. 8:14). "But IF ye be led of the Spirit, ye are NOT under the law" (Gal. 5:18). Paul clearly stated that the carnal ordinances of the law are abolished in Christ, and that is what Jesus was referring to when he said this: "God is a Spirit: and they that worship him MUST worship him IN SPIRIT and in truth [holiness]" (Eph. 2:14,15; Jn. 4:24). We simply cannot be more right with God than by literally "putting on Christ," which we do through the Spirit baptism by faith in Jesus (Gal. 3:26,27). Neither can we be the true seed of Abraham by any other means other than by being IN CHRIST through the same baptism of the Spirit with its accompanying sign of speaking with other tongues (Gal. 3:29; I Cor. 12:13; Acts 2:4). "Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. But now the righteousness of God WITHOUT THE LAW is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; Even the righteousness of God which is BY FAITH of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference... Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith WITHOUT the deeds of the law" (Rom. 3:20-22,28). As quoted above, anyone who is using any part of the ceremonial law, is a debtor to keep ALL of the law. That would include keeping ALL of the sacrifices and offerings of every kind, which includes reinstating the Levitical priesthood; all of which things would cut out the priesthood and offering of Christ, which things would be a clear contradiction of the scripture: "For the priesthood being changed, there is made of necessity a change also of the law" (Heb. 7:12). You also would have to keep all of the most menial laws like not sowing your garden with more than one kind of seed, not wearing any garment of mixed fabric, and MANY other such things. That is not the way of Christ my friends. The way of Christ is being purified in heart by the power of his Spirit, and walking in the holy love of God's SPIRITUAL law which is written and "shed abroad in [our] hearts by the holy Ghost" (Acts 15:8,9; Heb. 10:15,16; Rom. 5:5). "For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (Gal. 5:14). Amen.
